Brembo RACE System
When it comes to high performance
braking, none have the heritage or history in the making like Brembo.
Racing teams and manufacturers like Ferrari, Aston Martin, Lamborghini,
Porsche all rely on Brembo for their braking needs. Whereas you will
find Brembo on many OEM companies, it's the supercars such as the Ferrari
Enzo, McLaren F1, Porsche Carrera GT which get the blood pumping at the
mere mention of their names. These are just a few that have also
relied on Brembo.
From this dominate force in high
performance braking, the Brembo RACE system (formerly known as LeMans or
GTR) was developed.
This system offers the pinnacle of Brembo's
race technology; this is the closest product package there is to what
championship race teams use to win. The RACE system provides the
benefits of a true racing brake system with the durability and low
maintenance of a street braking system.
Features of the Brembo RACE System include:
- Brembo forged 4, 6 or 8 piston
racing calipers with sequentially sized pistons (lighter and slimmer
profile than standard Brembo GT calipers). Some RACE calipers are
1-piece monoblock construction while some are 2-piece, depending on
application.
- Brembo ventilated titanium piston
inserts to form an additional heat barrier (most RACE calipers, not
all)
- Brembo two piece "floating"
hat and rotor assemblies reduce unsprung weight and dissipate heat
faster
- Brembo slotted and directionally
vented two piece rotors
- DOT and TUV certified Goodridge
stainless steel brake lines; guaranteed for life
- Brembo high performance brake pads; up
to 4 per caliper; available in street or race compounds
- Brembo "floating"
anti-rattle rotor hardware developed by Brembo for the McLaren F1 road
car
- Brembo billet brackets with aircraft
quality hardware
Brembo RACE System FAQ
Q. What's the difference between a Brembo RACE
caliper and
Brembo GT caliper?
A. There are a few differences that distinguish a RACE from a
GTR or GT
caliper.
- RACE calipers are forged, GTR/GT calipers
are cast. Because of this manufacturing difference, the RACE caliper can be made to have a slimmer profile, allowing it to clear
more wheels. This difference also makes the RACE caliper
lighter, stronger and stiffer.
- The RACE calipers are anywhere from
1.4 to 2 lbs. lighter than the equivalent cast GTR/GT calipers.
- Most RACE calipers have ventilated,
titanium pistons, while GTR/GT calipers have aluminum pistons.
- RACE calipers are only available in
the goldish-anodizing with red machined logo. Powdercoating
the caliper would retain heat. Standard Brembo GTR/GT calipers are the ones
typically powdercoated (usually red, black, silver, yellow, etc.)
Q. What rotors does the RACE
kit
use?
A. While calipers are extremely unique, the rotors are the same
motorsport derived rotors used in the GT kits. The metallurgy of the
motorsport discs are far superior to OE in that they can stand up to
repeated heat cycling better. The material used is more pure and
free from contaminates, which allow this improvement in more consistent
braking performance. Slotted rotors are
the typical rotors used with the RACE kit, because of the 3 angle-slot
which has the most benefit. Drilled rotors are not recommended. Even the "floating"
anti-rattle rotor hardware is the same as the Brembo GT kit, so
replacement parts are plentiful.
Q. How easy is it to change the
pads?
A. Both the 4-piston and 8-piston calipers have easy to change pads
as they are simply removed from the top of the caliper. The gold
bars on the top of the caliper hinge upwards, allowing for the pads to be
removed. For the 6-piston caliper, two jet nuts are all that is
required to remove the caliper and slide out the pads.
Q. How many pistons for my
car? What size rotors?
A. Because of the unique nature of the RACE system, sizes are
determined by the front/rear balance built into the factory master
cylinder, front/rear weight bias of the car as well as OE line pressures,
amount of vacuum assist and brake pedal travel, to name a few. This
is the reason why the GTRRACE system is sold only as a front and rear set.
Q. I want to use 18"
wheels. How can I use RACE brakes if some of the kits come with 380mm
(15") diameter rotors?
A. Since the RACE calipers are forged, they are slimmer by
design. Therefore, even RACE kits with 380mm rotors can fit under
many 18" wheel profiles. Of course, to be sure, contact us for
the profile for your vehicle.
Q. What about installation?
A. Rogue Engineering has been a Brembo dealer for many years, so we
are kept up to date with the newest and latest that Brembo has to
offer. Installation is available from us, since we specialize in
meticulous mechanical services. Since we are very familiar with the
installation of these kits, we have also amassed the specialized tools to
ensure a perfect install.
Q. I would like to make my own
brake kit, using Brembo RACE calipers. Can you just sell me the
calipers?
A. No, they are not commercially available on the consumer market
individually.
Q. I have a custom <insert
car model here>, with a sweet flame paint job, and will be in
<insert number> of magazines. Can you sponsor me with free
Brembo RACE brakes?
A. No.

Exclusivity for the Few
The Brembo RACE kit is not for everybody. It takes a special enthusiast to understands the small differences that give you just that bit of extra performance advantage. Additionally, RACE kits are in limited supply, especially during the race season. Additionally, a RACE kit requires more involvement and understanding on the owners part.
A complete RACE kit (front/rear) starts at
$14,995 MSRP and it goes up from there, depending on application.
Lead time for a RACE kit is approximately 4-6 weeks. A 50%,
non-refundable deposit is required for ordering a RACE system.
To configure a custom Brembo RACE kit for
your vehicle, please contact us by email
to begin the initial consultation. Please have the
following information available:
- Year, make, model of vehicle
- Size and make of wheels being used on
the vehicle (IMPORTANT!)
For those who feel that they could use
the benefit of a performance braking system, but do not feel they need the
exclusivity of the Brembo RACE package, we also retail the Brembo Grand
Turismo performance brake kits. Download the latest catalog to find
