Brake Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Causes Corrective Action
Brake pedal low or to the floor Air in brake system Re-bleed the brake system according to the directions
Firm pedal, but vehicle does not slow Incorrect fittings used Check to make sure proper fittings were used, if they are too long, they car cover the piston fill holes in the caliper.
Crushed hard line Make sure that none of the brake lines are crushed.
Vehicle pulls to one side when braking Vehicle is out of alignment Have vehicle aligned
Vibrating pedal under braking:  Cold Brakes Glazed disc surface Lightly sand (clean) disc
Vibrating pedal under braking:  Hot Brakes What at operating temperature, disc is no longer straight New disc is needed
Soft brake pedal:  Cold Air in brake system Re-bleed the brake system according to the directions
Bad Master cylinder Have checked and replace if necessary
Soft brake pedal:  Hot System over-heated Allow to cool and re-bleed system according to directions.
Brake fluid boiling Use higher quality brake fluid
Wheel hits caliper   Use spacers
Brake squeal Backing worn off brake pads Trade pad position (switch outside pad for inside pad)
