Not just another fancy oil cap!
When the OEM factory oil cap showed signs of leaking many years ago, people had been scratching their heads. Some people tried to double up the factory gasket, some people tried using older model BMW caps. Between the warping, magnesium factory valve cover and a leaking oil cap, the S65 really had its share of issues.
While evaluating options on the market, we determined it was time to see how to make a better mouse trap.
- First, we needed to determine a way to secure the cap to the valve cover gasket. We were not convinced the "blade style" method was our option so we determined that having a rounded section to secure the cap to the valve cover was going to be our method of attachment. Of course, we designed it out of a single piece of Grade 5 titanium so it was impervious to rust but also a press fit into the machined aluminum cap.
- The cap was machined from 6061-T6 aluminum. It has particular tolerances for the titanium locking pin as well as our custom-made Viton sealing o-ring. Anodized in black or clear finishes give it an elegant or stealthy appearance.
- The gasket was of most importance. It needed to not only seal securely but also be able to handle the high temperatures. We had special Viton gaskets custom made, also designed to be replaceable for those monitoring mileage and use.
