From the crazy minds at Rogue Engineering, we bring you the next thing you didn’t know you needed, our motorsport-inspired tow hook!
Don’t confused this with another tow hook on the market…while we watched with awe how the F-series and G-series BMW vehicles got the attention of BMW Motorsport and their fancy, expensive tow hooks, we did not want to be left behind! So, we emulated some design features and created our own!
BMW Motorsport M235iR/M2 CS Tow Hook
The M235iR/M2 CS tow hook is made of 3 parts:
- Strap 72-15-8-416-600
- Base 72-15-8-416-601
- Screw 41-00-8-427-871
The increased size of the F-series and G-series tow hook "hole", it allows for the M10x1.5 socket head cap screw to go through the base piece (cast steel) and then engage to the strap/eye nut (also steel). It's actually a pretty cool design.
On the E-series cars, we had to adapt this concept differently. The smaller OD tow hook threads means we cannot use a "bolt through the base" design. The webbing on our strap is near identical to the BMW Motorsport version but we attach it to a stainless eye bolt (which also has M10x1.5 threads). We machine stainless steel "base adapters" based on the model and position of the tow strap. From there we can thread our strap/eye bolt into the base adapter.
Our tow hook includes the following:
- Tow strap with integrated 316 stainless steel eye bolt
- CNC'd 303 stainless steel base adapter (chose from dropdown menu)
- Thin, stainless jam nut
- O-ring
Installation is extremely simple:
- The first thing is to install the base adapter into the bumper. This only requires 17mm socket to secure the base adapter in place.
- The strap/eye bolt includes a thin jam nut threaded onto the stud. This allows for you to position the eye bolt to your desired position. Once you are happy, simply secure the jam nut against the base adapter.
The RE Motorsport tow hook also includes an o-ring to allow for the strap to be neatly folded so that it does not hang and flap during driving.
